Our summer interns, Brian and Talia, have been har Our summer interns, Brian and Talia, have been hard at work helping auto shops across Reno and Sparks learn more about pollution-prevention best practices.
Through their outreach and support, they have already helped several local auto shops begin the Green Business certification process.

We’re grateful for the time, energy, and enthusiasm Brian and Talia have brought to this work throughout the summer.

Plastic Free July may be coming to a close, but th Plastic Free July may be coming to a close, but the habits we started this month can continue throughout the year.

We’ve all taken a look at the many different ways plastic has become part of our everyday lives and are finding practical ways to use less of it.

Continue to refuse, reduce or replace one single-use plastic item. When you’re ready, add another item and then another! The goal is progress, not perfection.

One swap at a time can truly create a difference!

Farmers market season is a golden opportunity to s Farmers market season is a golden opportunity to start practicing a few Plastic Free July habits.

Before heading off to the market, be sure to pack:

• Reusable shopping bags
• Lightweight produce bags
• A reusable drink bottle
• A container for delicate produce or baked goods

The Carson Farmers Market is open Saturday mornings at Mills Park through September 26, 2026. And the Reno’s Riverside Farmers Market is located at Idlewild Park on Sundays and both markets highly encourage the use of reusable bags.

Keep a few bags near your keys, in your work bag or car so they are available when you need them.

Do you have more trips to Tahoe, Truckee or Pyrami Do you have more trips to Tahoe, Truckee or Pyramid Lake planned for the rest of the summer? Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it along the way.

Our friends at Drink Tahoe Tap, @drinktahoetap, provide a regional refill-station map that shows where we can all fill our bottles. It is a simple way to stay hydrated while reducing reliance on single-use plastic bottles!

Before leaving home:

• Fill your bottle
• Pack it where it is easy to reach
• Check the Drink Tahoe Tap map for refill locations
• Keep that bottle you already own

Protect the areas you love one refill at a time!
